Jingzhe Solar Term– Insects Awakening

“Jingzhe” is a seasonal period in traditional Chinese medicine that indicates the weather is getting warmer and the spring time is around the corner. It is at this time, thunder from rain storms can be heard which wakes up the insects sleeping underground. Modern meteorology explains that thunder heard before and after the “Jingzhe” period is due to the increasing humidity of the earth that causes the rise of hot air near the ground.
Health preservation
During the season of “Jingzhe”, the Qi of liver and Yang of human body rises gradually and the Yin and the blood are relatively in decline. It is important to allow the Yang to rise while supporting the Yin and promoting the blood.
Due to the corresponding relationship between liver and the spring time, this organ can be weakened if not properly maintained. From a dietary perspective in the season of “Jingzhe”, one should harmonize with nature by nourishing the liver, spleen and other visceral organs by eating light food rich in plant protein and vitamins and less animal products. The eating of duck blood, spinach, aloe, radish, balsam pear, agaric, celery, yam, lotus seed, and tremella can be beneficial in this season.
Chinese people often use acupuncture to regulate their bodies at the time of the 24 solar seasons/terms. Through acupuncture or fire moxibustion on acupoints, it can stimulate the Meridian channels and energy flow. Thereby the whole body’s Qi is able to run smoothly to achieve the goals of harmonizing the Yin and Yang, strengthening our body and preserving our health.
Daoist Medicine

Dr. Baolin Wu and Beijing Chinese Medical Center wish you and your family a happy and festive 2019 Thanksgiving during the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Boar. The spirit of this holiday is captured by the re-union of the family with bountiful food. And as such, Dr. Wu would like to offer his nutritional recommendations so you can stay healthy throughout this holiday.
1) During this holiday season consume ginger tea in the morning to combat the dampness and coldness.
2) Hawthorne Berry soup should be consumed after large meals to aid your digestion and food metabolism.
3) Garlic should be consumed regularly to boast your immune system and cleanse your system.
Daoist Medicine

In Daoist Medicine, the most important thing to treat is the abdomen. The abdomen should be treated first before all other treatments. The center plays a pivotal role in treating all the diseases inside the body. That is because the abdomen is at the center of the human body. To be more precise, the navel is the exact center of the human body. We were all born with a belly button. It is where initially, we were in connection with our mother via the umbilical cord.
Yin and Yang are at the navel, as with the bagua (eight trigrams) surrounding it. The medical practitioner can use the bagua to treat the patient. Also, the patient can treat themselves using the bagua. Not only can this method treat disease, but you can also help yourself make the changes internally that are necessary to confront situations in life that might block you from attaining your goals.
Sometimes we might find it difficult to achieve certain things in life, not because we can’t do them, but because we need to change ourselves in order to attain them. But these changes might require us to make changes that we might perceive as too demanding of ourselves to make. Some of us are just stuck in our ways. This method allows us to make the changes internally to help us achieve the goals we desire.
Dr. Wu, a Taoist Master from White Cloud Monastery will be teaching it at this year’s 9 Palaces Qi Gong Class.
